The Apology I Rehearsed in the Driveway RedeemedExistence daily devotional — September 18, 2026 I sat in my driveway last night with the engine off and the garage door still down, running through the same four sentences over and over, trying to find a version of "I'm sorry" that would not sound as hollow as I felt saying it. Twenty minutes earlier I had snapped at my son over something that did not deserve the volume I gave it, a missed trash night, a tone in his voice I decided to take as disrespect instead of the exhaustion it probably was. I watched his face fold in on itself before he walked to his room, and I knew immediately I had done something I would need to undo, but I sat in that driveway a long time before I made myself go undo it. That gap between knowing I was wrong and actually walking inside to say so is where guilt does its worst work.
